#1 L18 engine+gear box conversion into 1200 ute? HELP PLEASE
chase_me Posted on: 2009/11/11 10:44
Hey guys, I'm pretty new at the datsun/older carbie cars but always like the scene. i've got a 1200 ute with an A12 but have recently pickup a rebuilt L18 engine with twin Dellorto side draughts, gear box, extracors, cross member, lower control arms, sway bar and all steering links..

iIt looks like the gear box mounts are different and im unsure about tail shaft...

-So will i need "custom" tail shaft and gear box mount?
-Will everything bolt up?
-Do the Dellorto carbies still use "CHOKE"? (not to sure what im looking at so yeah, any help is much appreicated!)

thanks

if you have a ute newer than 1976 i think, they have the larger diff. then you will need to get a tailshaft shortened to suit
and you will have to make up your own gearbox mounts and crossmember most likely

if everything you bought came out of a 1200 then it should bolt up, if its out of something different then no it wont bolt up

dellortos still have a choke, you will need a twin choke cable if you want to run it properly though
and you shouldnt have any problems running it without the choke anyway

my ute is a 1980's, so is the yoke/spline will go into that gear box but will only need to be shortened?

i belive the motor come out of a 180b? its what i was told..

no you will need to get a tailshaft from a bluebird or jap assembled stanza and then shorten it to suit

if everything is out of a 180b, then you will be throwing most of it away (crossmember, control arms, sway bar, steering stuff)
you will need to get a sump and pickup from a 200b, bluebird or stanza and then make up an engine crossmember to mount the engine

very far from bolt in. if you had a 120y on the other had, then it would all bolt in....but you dont

Mate look at my thread, considering you bought my ute it all applies, you need to get yourself either an Auto 120y tailshaft or get one made up. You have an L16 5 speed stumpy box and a H145 Diff.
