A12 Engine ID

Asked this question on the main forum and didn't quite get the answer I needed. I recently purchased a AH Sprite with a transplanted A12 Nissan. It has a right hand alternator and distributor almost mid block on the right so I am guessing it's a later model. Built a custom header and added a Weber 40mm DCOE over the weekend. Only problem is all of the intake gaskets I have are oval port and my head has round ports. Trying to find out what US year / model this engine may have come from? I want to be able to go to the parts house and order parts but all I can tell them is "Nissan A12". Any guesses? One more thing.. Strange wire connecting to the distributor on top near the vac advance unit - what is it?

the later a12 was fitted to all b210 and all "a12" b310
if you ask for b210 parts you should not have an issue the additional wire connection for the dizzy is just for an earth wire for the dizzy houing, usually not required

what US year / model this engine may have come from? Go down to NAPA or Nissan and take photo of your gasket with you or better yet the old gasket. It might be same as one of the following: * 1978 B210 1397cc with 5-spped (yes, this has a different engine that 4-speed B210s) * 1972 B110 "Datsun 1200" 1171cc * 1980 B310 "Datsun 210" A12A 1237cc The wire on the distributor sounds like the grounding post. You don't need to connect a wire to it. You can view topic.
