need help with my a12

i pulled my a12 head off because i have a blown head gasket and im just wondering when i put it back together just wondering how tight to do the head bolts with the torque wrench thanks jarryd

if i remember rightly it is 44pounds... ill have a look in my manual right now for ya

sorry dude couldnt find it but i am pretty sure it is 44pounds,,, the wiki should have it in there aswell

It depends on which head bolts you have.
Early A12s have one torque figure, but those with the updated head bolts can/should use the higher torque specification. This will help prevent blown gaskets. The better bolts have "13" on them. The specs are: A12 33-36 ft-lb 4.5-5.0 Mkg (to engine # A12-470084) A12 40-43 ft-lb 5.5-6.0 Mkg (from engine # A12-470085) Possibly A12s after 1973 might be even higher torque -- anyone have the specs for say a 1978 A12?

thanks mine is an 82 model also should i use a type of gasket glue when i put the head gasket in i have hylomar gasket jointing compound but just unsure its what autobarn recommended

i thought ity was always recomended not to use any glue/sealant on a head gasket

Yes, it is recommended not to put anything on a A-series head gasket.
By the way, 1982 A12A head bolt torque is 51-54 lbs. I suspect the 1982 A12 will be the same, as it is virtually the same block.

a mate of mine owns a head shop and recommends using copper coat on every head gasket i use it on every head i do and never had a problem including my s/c a15
