#1 Stumpy gearbox questions
D Posted on: 2011/1/26 13:02
Just looking at this pic below and Im wondering
if the stumpy came out with an alloy sandwich
plate as my r30 stumpys both have a cast iron ones
and maybe some others might have alloy instead?

Also will the L24 series input shaft be
compatible with the Ca18 one, once I change
the bellhousing to suit the ca one?

blue bird 5 speeds have an alloy sandwich plate i think. should be able to swap it in....but there is most definately an alloy sandwich plate in some sorta 71 series

input shafts are the same for all 71 series boxes regardless of engine

But does the bluebird box have the same center distances and is it a 71 series? If it were an easy or worthwhile modification then it would be a known trick. And it is not. Probably more hassle than it's worth. A bit like dumping Miranda Kerr to go out and chase the tail of Rosanne Barr....!

I was thinking of using a 71 series behind the a series
and wouldnt really need the strength of the cast iron SW
so in this case Rosanne Barr is the cast iron one ready for
a Walrus donger while Miranda Kerr is the alloy one which
will suffice the lesser abuse of an A series?
(less abuse as far as we know anyway)

I feel like a twit not even thinking about other 71 series
boxes from the bluey especially! thanks fellas :)
