This is right above the dash pod extending out of the main loom - red w/white stripe, wiring diagram shows a R/W wire coming off the ignition switch, is this a switched hot lead?

I'm thinking it was never hooked up as my other dash has the same wire & it was disconnected as well.

mines taped back onto the harness and doesn't appear to be used, Im pretty sure last time i checked it was a ign ON power, however i'll check for you later today. ( could be a constant power)

Datodude is right, that wire has constant +12 volts for supply to the clock when mounted in the centre console or where the tach is normally located.

Can i ask, what's the purpose for the piggy back connection where your left turn blinker lamp connects?

just checked on my car, it has battery voltage when key is at acc position and on position.it isn't a complete circuit when ign is off so i'm assuming it is wired through the ign barrel. I have 2 or 3 wires in the same area that are constant battery voltage, I can check the colours on these if you like.

I don't see that wire in the wiring diagram, but noticed that the headlight beam is RW.

The 1973 factory service manual says the clock wire is Yellow/Red (even shows a photo), but I think it is incorrect based on what I've seen. Not everything it says is correct.

My 1971 dash harness doesn't have this RW wire. It has two BW (tacho) and two blue wires wrapped under yellow tape.

The connector below that one is for clock or tachometer lamps. The tachometer has a Y connector for this on the two red wires:

If you were to peel off the harness shrouding, the RW goes back to the IGN socket. Early harnesses have 4 wires for the IGN sock [BW-ign, BY-starter, W-+ve feed and the RW] and the later ones have a 6 spade plug. When then my early 4 spade plug was fitted to the ign barrel the W [white wire} was connected dirctly to the RW wire via the key barrel.

the clock wire according to the manual diagram I have is a blue single wire hanging off the loom on the far right of the glove box,I have that wire as well. Its the same area as the 2 tach BW wires. there's also another single blue which is a radio lead about mid point of the harness.

Thanks Mattblack for checking that, I assumed it was a switched lead because of the color & the headlight wire david pointed out was the other RW wire I'd noticed in the diagram. I think the book I have is for 71-72 so I'm not sure what the 73 diagram says.

Benny - the additional split connection off the single spade terminal is to send power to the light box for the 73 wash/wipe switch, I may get rid of it as I dont really like the look of the switch & it doesn't match the cig lighter & light switch anyways. The other + spade on my dash pod is feeding the tach lights so I didn't have much choice where to steal power from.

I know, it looks kinda funky.

But back to the original question - I wonder what the hell that wires for then??? Maybe its just an additional switched power lead for who know what... hey, would that lead work to feed the AC clutch lead?

The blue wires are constant battery power. ( I checked them while I was there!)
