This has been discussed a bit lately, but I an after some advice on what inserts work well with this setup.

I have The stanza front suspension in my 1200 with a CA conversion. I am running Stanza Struts, un shortened with SSS Stanza Springs. I have a heavy duty sway bar fitted also.

The present ride height of the vehicle is good, but the dampening qualities of the front end leave a bit to be desired.

I am running 14 inch rims with 185/60 rubber. The spring perch is only just above the tyre, so moving it further down the strut is not an option.

The struts are original, with the original oil, will putting in a replacement Stanza replacement cartridge (Pedders 8722 Comfort Gas Cartridge) net possitive gains, or is there any thing else worth considering.

Give datsport a call, they are knowledgeable in stanza inserts and use/sell a very nice adjustable one. It's a bit pricy for my budget but worth the $ from what Ive seen in our club.

We used late 80 model Sunny B310 sedan inserts in stanza struts they had the same size tube but the actual insert that the spring cup, bolt and hat attaches to is shorter so more travel.

if its just a road car just put new shocks in, you will get 95% of the benefit of putting expensive ones in

shocks are the most improtant part of the suspension to keep in good condition,
that said replacing the bushes is a good idea at the same time (super pro seem the best by far for fit and quality)

the really cheapo option is draining the stock oil and putting the same quantity of 20W/50 motor oil in... but the seals are likely knacked anyway

seems weird you cant shorten the struts with those wheels/tyres, i would of thought you would have cleanace, what wheels/offset are they?

with the struts being un-shortened you are losing 2 inches of travel in the bump direction

185/60/14 will have almost identical OD to the original 13" rim tyre combo fitted,there are 2 variants of Stanza struts in australia
First model are jap import variant much the same as sunny,what you have will be the grey Armstrong australian variant these have the advantage of being lighter than 200B or 240K struts but use the 90mm caliper bolt spacing that allows Hilux calipers etc to fit up easily.
The japanese spec ones use a 180B 1600 75mm centre to centre caliper bolt spacing with those the options were more limited to either commodore or late 80's Corvette calipers or Volvo 4 piston variants.
You would be better off getting KYB rather than Pedders which are only a coat of red paint and a sticker away from Monroe gas if you get my drift.
Just a thought being Stanza SSS struts they run a 20mm lower ride height with a slightly uprated spring rate compared to standard GL or GX models,as for the old Oil uprate job dont use engine oil as the standard oil from KYB is around 7 weight and any motorcycle shop can supply fork suspension oil in a range of weights from 2.5,5,10,15,20,30,40 all being made for the suspension application will be much more consistent and seal friendly.

Will try KYB as just got a set of rear shocks from them, but are yet to install them.

You can shorten the strut without moving the spring perch. when I shortened my first pair of stanza struts I actually moved the spring perch up for more clearance. And my shocks were a fair bit shorter than the normal 240z option

Coxsteve. How would stanza struts be lighter than 200b and 240k struts? As they are pretty much the same thing. But stanza has a longer strut body and smaller spring perch. Unless you are talking about the complete assembly, brakes and all, in which case it would be the brakes and springs that are lighter, not the strut body

Would like to shorten the strut tube, would it be possible with the stanza strut inserts?

Because the adjustable strut tops basically shorten the shock travel by 30 mm.
