#1 CA18DET 120Y, Haltech, 550hp turbo, ext gate, etc
Shifty Posted on: 2011/9/13 5:27
I have a few things on the go at the moment, so the Datsun is available to clear up some room. I'm in no rush to sell but if you make a reasonable offer this is yours.
1978 Datsun 120Y, four door sedan. Resprayed in bright yellow. Presents well but if you look closely there are lots of small dents and marks and a few little rust spots. It adds to the sleeper appeal really.
If you want a show car this is not for you. If you want a cool old car that doesn't attract attention from the cops/bogans/S13s but surprises the #OOPS# out of people then this is for you.
I'd plan to respray it in a few years time but as mentioned it's quite presentable.
In the last 20,000km
Rebuilt CA18DET engine
CA18DET five speed
3" exhaust system
New shocks/springs all 'round including reset leaves.
various new bushes
Custom alloy catch can
CA18DE intake cam

heaps more i've missed listing
In the last 2,500km
Bought a second 120Y fuel tank, modified this with a surge tank and larger fittings, then flushed/treated/painted and installed with all new hoses & clamps.
Carter gold surge pump with custom bracket, feeds off first surge tank.
Alloy main surge tank fed by carter gold.
Bosch 044 main pump feeding from second surge tank to engine.
New battery & new battery box (in boot)
all brand new steering, draglink, balljoints, tierod ends, etc in front
Fitted Datsun 720 ute H190 diff
Full custom tailshaft with upgraded yoke, unis, etc.
New tyres F & R
Tomei exhaust cam
New brake rotors (front)
new wheel studs (front)
new QFM performance street pads
new brake dums (rear)
new brake shoes (rear)
new wheel cylinders (rear)
new brake line to diff
quickspool turbo manifold
brand new master power 550hp turbo
tial watercooled wastegate
various parts hpc'd/powdercoated
massive front mount fitted
upgraded alloy radiator fitted
some braided lines, some speedflow here and there
heaps more #OOPS# i haven't even thought of
cleaned and flowed 1000cc injectors
Price: Call your bank now or jump on their website. Apply for a $9k loan or refinance your existing loan for an additional $9k. Call me on 0418 874 494 and give me that $9k. I will give you the Datsun. Take a look at that list of gear, it's a cracker of a buy!
May consider as a small part-payment:
tidy-but-cheap standard daily (eg. basic EL falcon with aircon and cruise)
old car of interest eg a stock 120y, 1000, ke10 etc as long as not heaps rusty.
Negatives: Car has the goods but needs a few things here and there. You can jump straight in it and drive it, skid it, whatever. Just needs a few things like maybe removing a rear leaf, etc, an hour on the dyno to tune full power, etc. currently running off the gate @ 14psi. goes hard even like this. no reason it can't have 22psi and more timing / less fuel.
You should not need to upgrade the fuel system or anything, it should just be right to turn the boost up and touch up the tune, no reason it won't make a fairly easy 300-320rwhp. At that power level it should run 11s all day long, that's a #OOPS#in fast 120Y :)
has a crack in the front grille. You can repair it, or I have another new-old-stock one you can have.
have a spare CA18det 5sp.
NOTE: These whitewalls are drawn on in MS-paint, as the rear hubcaps will require a small bit of massaging to fit so I haven't had them done yet. Just did it so you have an idea what it looks like :)

Just when I was starting to like your motives (turbo bike, nicely done 120Y) and BAM!

You too could own a car just like this one. In fact.. you can own THIS ONE.
Negotiable on price if it goes to a good home. Just in the process of changing jobs AND getting another project to work on,so I could handle freeing up both the money and the space. If it doesn't sell though I'm happy to keep it.
Long-term I would give the bodywork and paint a better go. I deliberately had the manifold made to suit anything up to a GT42R so the sky is the limit with the car, all it really needs is a $600 set of forgies if you want to start pushing that kinda business. It already has ACL Race bearings, prepped rods, etc.

OK well something has come up, so I have to go to Japan on relatively short notice.
Asking price is $9k but if someone comes up with a half-decent amount of cash then I will consider it as that will save me putting half the trip on my credit card :)
Will consider a 1000 or 1200 as small part-payment.

Oh and I maaaay consider just selling the complete driveline package if the price is right.
No interest whatsoever in parting it out - either the whole car, or the whole driveline.
