It's a big country... depends what you want to see! you can get between cities by rail but probably easier to fly cos it's so much faster (and usually cheaper)

Flights are cheap within Australia
there are many bargains during the week eg. tuesdays best time so far to catch cheap flights otherwise campervans are good too.

Depends on the time of year and whether your a tourist , adventurer or just want to go to the pub and perve and watch the sun over the water
Perth is of course the best place Especially in summer But.... be prepared for a scorcher if you pick the wrong week :)

WA is definatly the best place... most overlooked usually too.
The SW of WA has lost of fantastic touristy stuff, and the NW could almost be described as the Wild West. Just depends like dattoman said, on what you want to see.

In summer I believe Tassie is the best place due
to nicer weather when its cooking and it actually is an amazing place. Then followed by summer of Tennis, night markets and more in Melbourne :) Last is Biased but Melb summers are drier. If came this week you could see the Royal Hag for some tomato throwing action :)

Hey man I moved to Australia about two years ago and its totally different to what I pictured. Theres a lot to see. I live on the gold coast and work in Brisbane. Sydney is a really nice place to visit. I've gone camping throughout NSW. Been to Darwin and the outback on the NT and really enjoyed it. The wildlife here is nothing like America or any other place being from the USA that's my favorite part about Australia. Qld has really nice coastlines too like the sunshine coast. Frasier island was probably the most unique place I have ever been to. Highly recommend you go there. If you need somewhere to stay a night give me a pm when you get here.

I haven't relly been out of QLD but I like Brisbane and the gold coast and for the purpose of having no real purpose it's not bad. Stuff living in a bigger city than Townsville unless there's osme sort of underground Datsun driving scene involving gently sloping alpine roads
