#1 Ackkk......I've turned into Colin Chapman.........sort of.

Well I must have to much free time again because I've started obsessing about component weight again.

Lets see, alloy H145 saves 7lbs, lighter wheels (hot wires are 13 lbs) will save 5 lbs per, fiber hood 20 lbs, rear deck lid 5 lbs, take out the passenger seat and 5 point harness another 20 lbs.................lighter exhaust 5 lbs..................and on and on it goes.......................till I realize that I'd be hard pressed to get 80-100lbs out of the car at a cost of $1000-1500 easy. I could spend half that on the A15 in the garage and cut the lap times more..........but but all those pretty alloy parts and light weight panels look the business and will do so much for the handling, they really will, really.......................no wonder Chapman had a heart attack!!

Tom

P.S. Thankfully Santa Tomas (me) brought home a 2011 Beta 520RS enduro or I'd be out in the garage looking at more things.

Tom

If he is like me and cut back on the Xmas cheer
A piece of Straw would look heavier!

Actually alloy steering boxes are available from other cars.

This is a really good point. I constantly sees guys at the track who are 15-30kg overweight yet have gone to the trouble of fitting lightweight alloy wheel nuts, carbon panels, lightweight fuel cells etc.

Have you already done the easy and free options like removing the spare tyre, tool kit, jack, passenger seats, factory seat belts, trim panels, roof lining etc?

What about cheap options like removing all sound deadening, cutting out all unused brackets, swiss cheesing the remaining brackets, cutting the excess length off all bolts and screws, removing the dash and using a a small alloy panel for the gauges and warning lights, cutting out the spare wheel well and covering the hole with an alloy panel, fitting lexan side and rear windows?
