Hi guys I am in need of a cheap run about to get me through a few months and a Nissan Exa has come up for sale in great condition and at a good price.
Another bonus is that it comes standard with the CA18DE which was a engine that I was considering for the ute, which means when I have finished with the Exa I would be left with a engine for mi ute.
Now this is where my mechanical knowledge shows the Exa is a FWD and my 1200 ute is a rear wheel drive is that going to be a problem atall?

Yes if it's a exa fwd ca18 bolt spacing for gearbox fitting is wrong, you need to find out if it has a s13 rwd motor fitted or not!

All CA no matter what have the same bolt on pattern for RWD or FWD boxes the only thing that changes is FWD have no main bearing ladder brace and different semi winged sump but all good considering the block is so rigidly webbed much more than an A15 and only 1.6mm more stroke. Nissans Cosworth version is like Toyotas 4age but with more capacity and hydraulic lifters like the Suzuki gti g13b they never give you issues and cheap as chips.

You mean all CA18 have the same transmission bolt-pattern. Because other CAs have a different bolt pattern.

So CA18 from a pulsar is good. Yes, you need a RWD gearbox, but even a CA18 from a Silvia/180SX will also need a RWD gearbox.

All CA blocks have the same rear bolt pattern to suit fwd or rwd no matter the year or model all interchangeable. There is even a diesel model which very much interests me.

They say CA16 differs from CA18/CA20 bolt pattern, but I haven't been able to verify.

Is the CD17 diesel related to the CA?
