#1 Vibration above 60km/h Uni Joints
BeeJJ Posted on: 2012/7/6 4:24
Hey Guys,
As the title says I'm getting vibration when I travel above about 50-60km/h. I'm assuming its the uni joints. Have taken the tailshaft out and I have the non serviceable model

I found some sweet info in the wiki about rockford driveline. On their site they have part no. 430-9 which is listed as being Datsun 1200 - 1971-73 and Datsun B210 1974-82. My car is a 1974 1200 Ute is this part correct for this? Also do you think this is the issue?

I drove it the other day with some weight in the back, the vibration was still there but seemed less and seemed to come on later (maybe 70-80km/h).

Thanks

perhaps.

The most common cause is tyre balance (shows up most around 80kph) or wheel alignment.

But you can easily check out the U-joints.
Quote:
Remove the Propeller Shaft from the diff (you can leave it in the transmission to prevent transmission fluid from leaking). Flex the u-joints by hand. It should:
* Move smoothly (not stiff), in all directions
* Be tight and smooth
Replace if loose or binding or notchy feeling

Also check the back-lash of the yoke in the transmission. Rotate it, you should not be able to feel any looseness with the tranmission in gear.

Cheers DD
As you know I went to get a wheel alignment yesterday and posted the results in the other thread...
They did say back was out (as you can see on the sheet)...

So is that the correct part?

Was getting a slight shake at 80km so I went for wheel alignment earlier this week and they said they couldnt do it due to front wheel bearing. got a wheel bearing and went to other place to fit it and they said wheel was buckled. Went to get rim rolled and said its non repairable because its not buckled but actually slightly egg shaped. So it went from $70 wheel alignment to $90 wheel bearing to $140 wheel rolling to $3k new set of rims..

I think the B120 uses the same u-joints as B210/B310. You can measure yours and see if they match the Rockford dimensions.

Certainly if they test bad, replace them.

Guys looking at the procedure to replace using the aftermarket rockford part here:
http://rockforddriveline.com/Staked_Instructions.htm

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks to me like the procedure forces the staked in joints out. Then files/smooths the staked surface off to be smooth. Then the after market joint is fitted and C clips hold it in.

If this is the case could you simply follow that same logic and procedure and buy something like this:

To fit in afterwards?
