[Disccussion] Do Cyclists Belong on the Road

Love them or hate them, some of these accidents caught on video would be painful. Do cyclists belong on the road or the footpath? Drivers tell them to get off the road, pedestrians tell them to get off the footpath. It seems like they can’t win. Leave your thoughts in our comments…
Sorry boy's im really quiet at work today and i know this is really a controversial subject and topic but whats your take on it?

My take on it as i am a BMX enthusiast and have been riding for the past 8 years doing competition and racing on BMX is to just use the foot path, take the risk out of the equation

Without getting in a big debate. So will say what i believe and leave it at that. They should stick to the curb gutter side of the road. Its my belief if they want to use the road as say a motorist or motorcycle rider does then they should have to pay the costs we pay registration and insurance. The insurance should be all inclusive So include personal and property injury/damage. There are pros and cons to that theory I'm well aware but thats my slant on it.

The thing that annoys me is when you get a pack of cyclists and they ride 3 side by side, making you go completly onto the otherside of the road to avoid them rather than rideing in single file.
Unless they can do the speed limit they should not be taking up the whole road. A cyclist takes their life into thier own hands when they ride on the road. I do my best to drive safely around them but I think if thier going to continue to ride on the road more cycle lanes should be put in place, but thats more money which is going to come out of our pockets.

What is the law?
Here in WA, cyclists must take the road, and follow all the rules of the road. They can use pedestrain walkways if they dismount and push the bike.

I'm a cyclist and a driver. I use bike lanes and paths where I can but legally you are entitled to use the left hand lane but ride more than 2 wide. You must follow all road rules.
I see the frustration as a Rider too. I use all the stop and turning hand signals, wear bright clothes and have lights. No lycra here though lol. Other riders that don't follow annoy me but paying 2 regos taxes etc I should be able to use the road but believe that bikes cars and pedestrians should all be separated. There for I choose to use paths 90% of the time. People are idiots though I have had people run me into the gutter. Throw full and empty cans bottles fruit at me. litt cigarettes. safer to plan a ride that reduces these risks. Current training for 135km leg of bay in a day with aim for full 250km next year. I see both sides like I say. Shame the tools that throw stuff and abuse me don't understand I know they frustrated too.

Redmond Washington is cycle capital of the Northwest. It is also the city that i work in. All I have to say is that motorcyclist obay the the law, cyclist do not.
