It's an odd nut. It is a collar nut.

And currently jammed stuck in the head.
It's gonna get damaged in an effort to get it out.

No worries. You can buy new at Nissan or new at Supercheap. Some senders do not use a locknut but have the threads built in. Some brands come with the locknut. Most do not.

Use penetrating fluid and a six-point socket. If the flats are rounded, use a pipe wrench. If it breaks, use a sharp chisel and break it into pieces.

I can remember that the sender had a part number of TS6010 & you could get the locknut under TS6010B, but I can't remember the brand, I think it was Echlin. Any local parts place should at least go through their catalogue for you. Try your local Pep's store, not the parts 'Supermarket' like
StupidCheap. I think the thread is a British Standard Pipe (BSP) size, not a metric size like you'd expect. I know that L series senders have the same thread size, as you have to swap the standard A series sender into the L series thermostat housing, or the guage won't give the correct reading.

If you buy from Nissan, no worries. The 1200 part number is the same as the 1600 part number.

If you buy aftermarket, sometimes they are bad from new, or give different gauge readings.

I got the integral thread one from bursons for $7. They listed same one for all L and A series engine. Mine came in a bag for 240z. Fit and works a charm. Far more accurate than the a series one I had in my l series . I also run an after market temp gauge as well
