Just been looking into surge tanks for my car and i have a vl turbo fuel pump for the 20v. I was just wondering when you run a surge tank does the fuel pump going into the tank have to be as large, or same psi as the fuel pump going to the motor? I hope that doesn't sound to confusing.

The feed pump to the surge tank can also be called a lift pump and is low pressure. Only a few psi.

If you're going to operate at maximum power for long enough to use 2L (or what ever volume the tank holds) the lift pump flow needs to match maximum fuel consumption. Otherwise a small one will likely do the job.

You'll probably be fine with a normal carby type electric fuel pump to feed the surge. If you manage to empty the surge tank get a bigger lift pump.

Remember your main pump flows more volume then needed by the engine to maintain line pressure (set by the pressure regulator) and returns the rest of the fuel back to the surge tank or fuel tank if you don't have a surge tank.
These EFI fuel pumps do not pump well without back pressure and are therefore not recommended as lift pumps.
Low pressure pumps and/or positive displacement pumps are your best bet, Carter and Holley make some. These can be loud too, Not as bad as a bosch 044 but pretty loud. so consider where it is mounted if you are not wanting to be obnoxious on the road.

cheap are cheerful is the go, ask for an L28 patrol fuel pump from a 4x4 wrecker, the patrol actually had two but you only need one, they are a great pump and will only cost $30-40 from a wrecker. new ones today are the same and sold as "V8 supercar lift pumps" lol

you need to understand how the whole system works to plumb it correctly and be safe, so be sure to ask more questions where in doubt!

Awesome I thought that may have been the case and now I'm just tossing up fuel line I asked a mechanic and he was saying to use red fuel line which I haven't herd of before and he was saying braided line weeps and smells like fuel? Im thinking I might just stick with normal fuel line.

yeah thanks 1200 rallycar I've got a fair idea on how to hook it all up just wasn't a 100% on the lift pump

you can use stock fuel line for low pressure side, just need to upgrade the solid fuel line size on high pressure side (between EFI pump and fuel rail)

you can also use small line for return line from the fuel rail, as this is low pressure also
