#1 Weber Dual Sidedraft Setup
AFRacer Posted on: 2002/3/25 3:18
Hey everyone, this is my first post in this new club...in the old one my screen name was errrnstak just so you know who I am! Anyways, I had a few questions about the dual sidedraft carb setups on the A series engines. Can you use 40mm carbs on a 45mm intake? Is anybody interested in selling a manifold and/or linkages for dual 40mm setup for a reasonable price? The reason I ask is because the Datsun has been very good to me for the last year and it's our one year anniversary right now and I just scored a pair of Dellorto DHLA 40mm's for her for a good price and I want to piece together a working setup .....if somebody has a manifold that they aren't using (rather than wasting money on a new one). Probly won't be able to afford it like right now but maybe within the next month. Also I'm in Texas just so you know.

Also, what kind of difference in power would these make over the dual SU/GX setup? I bet they sound a lot better! Gas mileage probably isn't as good though, I still get 35 mpg's with the 38mm SU's. Are the Dellorto's harder to tune than the SU's? Talk to ya'll later!

Hey Andy, good to hear from you again. This is Tim, the two 1200's from the Austin Z-car show. I have a dual side draft manifold that I'm probably not going to do anything with. It has no linkage though. Actually, I have one that is 4" long with large ports at the head end, and one that is 3.25" long with HUGE ports at the head end. (Oh man, did I set myself up with that statement?) What are you going to do with the SU setup? I'd be interested in that. As for tuning, the sidedrafts shouldn't need tweaking all the time like the SUs do. Of course, they won't have the bottom end torque of the SUs but they would scream on top end. The biggest problem I can see is master cylinder clearance.

I've got dual 40mm dellortos on the 45mm manifold and had no problems. Try to pick up a proper linkage between the carbs one thats got a screw to adjust the balance between the carbs. Talk to a carb specialist that knows a fair bit about Webers/Dellortos and he should be able to put you on the right track for these. Reason i suggest this set up is because i've got a bit of experience with the tie-rod type linkages that companies put out and they are a handful to adjust and in my opinion nowhere near as good. Best of luck Mate.
