Dd mentioned on a post yesterday that the diff centres were a Hitachi made unit.Surely these centres were not only built for Datsun
They must have been sourced out to other manufacturers as well. Any thoughts ?? Bob

Yep thats why for a while I was keen on the LSD from the states to suit the Suzuki Sierra H175 as they are a tad stronger LSD units for around 450usd etc. Axles would be about the same as the H165

I doubt if production of Datsun differentials was sourced out to sourced out to other manufacturers. Hitachi is/was a stable reliable manufacturer and could easily handle the volume.

Hitachi group is ranked 38th in the 2012 Fortune Global 500 and supplies parts like differentials for several companies and the suzuki has "H" stamped on them also confirmed by Suzi Gurus as Hitachi units. Of course as aftermarket parts is also the bread and butter of profit making for these companies they made sure sizes varied considerably to stop mixing.

A problem with Suzuki units is the axles don't match Datsun axles. The Hitachi from early AE86 (Toyoda T-series diff) exactly matches the 1200 ute axles.
I'm sure Hitachi would rather everyone used the same parts (like Datsun and Subaru did). But Toyoda wants the parts to be slightly different -- it is the Toyoda Way. You can view topic.
