#1 Clutch noise. Bad throwout bearing?
SunnyDaze Posted on: 2013/2/4 10:38
Ok ever since fitting a new clutch and a reco gearbox a while ago I had the following symptom:

When the clutch pedal is fully out there is noise. Lightly press on clutch pedal and the noise disappears.

This is a bad throwout bearing, right?

Funny thing is it has done this I replaced the clutch, so if it is the throwout it was bad since new.

It happens all the time mate and yes it's the throwout bearing no point in changing it cause it's a guessing game but one question did u grease the bearing before putting it in

I will be pulling the engine and box soon so I intend to replace with the factory bearing.

I carefully oiled the pilot bushing and greased the clutch fork assembly as per manual but not sure about what you mean about greasing the throwout bearing. Please enlighten me.

An eternal noise IM chasing, bad throw out bearing is when pedal pressed it makes noise afaik. Could be a worn front carrier bearing or whatever they are called in the box.

You need some one to hear it to diagnose better

agreed. When pedal is out (up) the throwout bearing does not turn (is not supposed to turn).

Does this noise happen when the car is moving or only with the engine idling? If only when idling it might be the spigot bush.

Ensure there is play in the pedal and at the throwout lever before proceeding.

I only hear the noise when it is idling. I can't tell for sure whether it happens or not when driving as the noise may be drowned out. The noise increases with engine RPM when idling.

Mine does that too, a very quiet, but obvious noise. It doesn't hurt anything.

Here's a good link aaa

I put mine to the throw out arm vibrating or the fingers in the clutch cover, I've swapped 3 boxes in 12 months after not listening to gearboxdon and other knowledgeable members.
My clutch springs were damaged though so I opted for a brass button clutch new to bearing and new bearing in the crank.

Noise still there occasionally but it's driving and shifting fine so unless it gets way worse or stops working IM just enjoying it.
