Hi guys just letting you all know how the datto is goign its been off the road for around 2 months now. A long story but Ill tell you all anyway. It all started a few weeks into winter my car was goign really well driving to work each morning it became smoky and gradually got worse. It never got a hiding as its was really cold (downto -10) and had not warmed up bye the time I got to work (only 5km away) i decided to give her a bottom end freshen up as it has been 3 years since I reinged it. I striped it down to find the bore was quite glazed even worse the bearings where rooted just about to pick up lucky the crank was still ok.
After doing some checking and goign out to see my engine machinist we figured out what had gone wrong. With the bigger injectors and the cold weather the water temp enrichment had been pumping way to much fuel in causing it to wash the bore this inturn after a while contaminated the oil with petrol making the engine breath and blow smoke quite bad. Ok now for the rebuild I building it to handle 450+hp. the bottom end has been fully race preped crank have been destressed nitrided linished, shotpeened rebalanced ect. The rods have recieved the same with Chev ARP rod bolts to hold it together. The forged aries pistons have been ceramic coated on the crown and specail coating on the skirts to stop them from scuffing and aiding lubrication. The head has stayed the same just cleaned up a bit. Still with standard cams. My aim is 400hp on 20psi and avgas diet and 350hp with 16psi and pump fuel. I will be taking pictures as I assemble it all Ill keep you posted. I cant wait to give it a caining at the datsun nationals hopefully I can keep it on the black stuff and impress a few. Cheers Andrew
