I have thinked about it but when you are driving (and you have your hands busy) it isn't so great to open the glove compartment to adjust the volume.

Ok,, that is a solution.

just cut the dash, everyone seems to go through a stage where they say "i want to keep the car as original as possible" but they all end up cutting their dash cause its always going to be much more convenient and look ten times better than having a crappy old stereo sitting there with a brand new unit sitting in some obscure position with brackets attached and wires flopping about. keeping it original is impossible for a daily driver, your just putting yourself through discomfort for nothing, its inevidible that your going to want comfy seats, better radio, faster motor and like youve already done a better color

anyway thats my experience and 2cents rolled into one

Do you have to even cut the dash? Mine is about 3 years old and no cutting was necessary, I've still got the original blanking plate as well. The B310 that I once drove had a reasonably modern stereo (couldn't make up for the fact that it felt gutless!)

I found a Kenwood KRC-2007 in their catalog
Crutchfield
but it only plays tapes.

I have to agree with 1200rallycar, go ahead and cut the dash to fit a DIN mount CD stereo. I did it in Gil.
My biggest advice is spend the money on a good quality unit. I have had to replace the cheap-assed $60 Radio Shack CD player one time too many. I had originally bought cheap for fear of theft, but skips and such finally got to me. This incarnation will get a decent unit.
On the other hand, if tapes are acceptable to you, there are still some good quality shaft mount stereos out there. Your choice.

I'm agreeing with 1200 rallycar too.

I once had mine in the glovebox, all good for security and original looks, but just a pain!

Remote control is an idea though if you want to keep the looks.

In my opinion, a nice new deck looks better than the old original stereo, unless of course you had a full on restored original, then thats a different story... you wouldn't even consider upgrading

has anybody had any success with putting a competition style stereo in a 1200 coupe?
