#1 L20b and stanza struts into a 1200 ute. how to?
Matto1kUte Posted on: 2014/6/18 12:06
Looking at putting a L20b motor and stanza struts in my 1200 ute. Just looked at the wiki but im a little confused. Will an auto tailshaft still fit a 1200 ute? Or is there another tailshaft? Also does a stanza engine crossmember fit a 1200? And what do I need to do to fit stanza struts in? Thanks

Use a 120y h150 auto tailshaft or a early bluebird tailshaft and stumpy L series 5 speed like sss stanza box or r30 skyline stumpy box.
Stanza crossmember won't fit but unpick mounts from it and stock ute one and use stanza ones on 1200 Cross member once engine is in place.
Also try to use bluebird L20b or at least sump and oil pick up off one or stanza sump and oil pick up as they are front bowl facing sump like a series.
With L20b you really need to scallop centre section out of 1200 cross member to get engine down low enough for clearance.

To fit the Stanza struts, you need to change the steering arm so the struts will bolt to it. The steering arm from a Stanza or Sunny will work, BUT you need to change the lower control arm, ball joint & I think the castor arm as well. All of these can be sourced from the Stanza or Sunny. Thats why fitting S13 discs & calipers to the standard strut has been popular lately. No need to change the front corners. Just need to source the adaptors that allow the calipers to bolt to the strut, commonly known as dog bones. Several people on this site have advertised these for sale.

I have drum struts. Does that make a difference?

Why l20b? If you get one get series 2 bluebird as they hace flat top pistons pretty much. Put an a87 or closed chamber w53 head and mild cam. With carb s would be nice.
l18 revs sweeter.

Also noticed you chasing a sss 5 speed. They dont like constant abuse behind an l20b. Look for a 71b or 71c from an r30 skyline or d21 navara. Supfatto has a 71c stumpy box I think.

tail shaft length depends on where you mountbtge motor. I paid $160 or something to have mine shortened balanced and new unis. Was a h150 auto shaft from a 120y.

Does the navara box fit in a stock 1200 tunnel? I have one already

I want to use a L20b bottom end, ka24e head, mild cam, hi comp pistons and quad carbs of some kind. Hopefully using stuff from my local u pull it

Get series 2 bluey motor. No need for high comp pistons.

I wasn't too sure but I thought the ka head lowered compression on a L series. Was going to look into it
