#1 Newbie questions...got a free coupe and don't know what to do with it!
valleyclassics Posted on: 2002/10/12 5:04
Greetings from Central California. A friend of mine gave me a really solid and complete '71 coupe today. I had never seen an LB110 before so I was intrigued by it. I have been looking into doing a swap of some sort and creating a street terror but am still unclear on what way to go. I have access to a free race-prepped L20b and a reasonably priced KA24 that also comes with a complete 510 sedan. I would love to go SR20DET or something along those lines. I know the CA18DET is the way to go but those seem to be difficult to find here in the states. Any other thoughts?

All those you mentioned are viable swaps and all have been done. Different members of the club have their favorites.

In stock form, they say SR20DET is more powerful than the CA18DET, but everyone seems to agree the CA18 has more potential (raise the boost, etc). In some/most parts of Australia the 2-liter turbo is illegal for the 1200 due to regulations.

I've seen some claims of near stock KA24s driving 1200s into the 13s ... although the KA24 can't rev much more than a thousand RPM higher than a stock chevy V8, so yer limited there.

Several members of the club here swear by an L or Z-series Nissan 4-cyl swap. Others swear at this, but In Japan, B110s were available with the L14.

Lots of ways to have fun with a B110. Check out the 5.0-liter Ford powered one in the Members section.

Hi
Just wanna say that motor you said is the l14 don't you mean A14, anyways just thinking since you have L series motors in the States have you got the Z18-ET, see its the L18 with a cross flow head, its a pretty good head design, and they come in fuel injection too.

So the L20B would be a good swap then? Is it true it takes a lot of "massaging" to get it to fit? I have read some articles that talk of hacking up and re-welding the crossmember and needing a custom oil pan.

check out "L18 instal" thread on second page of main forum topics, its essentially the same, i am against the idea for ive heard the same as you and it seems its a lot more work than installing the much better CA18DET

Well, don't forget that the L20B is 3/4" taller than the L16/L18.
