#1 1200 Transmission tunnel needed
nb Posted on: 2002/10/18 9:36
I need a 1200 automatic transmission tunnel. A cutout tunnel or wrecked body will do. Any help greatly appreciated. p.s. I'm in Canberra.

I was all ready to sell you my extra tunnel. Then you had to go and be on the opposite side of the world.
Tell you what, you send me a Ute or a 1200 Van, and I'll give you this tunnel.
No? Oh well, I didn't really expect that to work.

I cut an auto tunnel out of one of my wrecks a few years ago for just such an occasion.

AU$100 is the price. Sounds like a lot. There's a story to why I should charge this.

While I cut up a 4 door sedan, I had to use a claw hammer to break apart some parts where the angle grinder couldn't reach...

Anyway, I cut the datto into about ten parts. Making a convertible, seeing what a 1200 looks like with no rear doors etc ..I should have got photos.. The rear quarter section was the hardest to break apart. As I was smashing through the double panel near the rear wheel arch, My gritty greasy hands had been shocked into a weak state from this out of character physical exertion. On an upswing, my impact vibration damaged hands lost grip on the hammer, it promptly sailed over my shoulder and out the garage door...Sounds a bit like the spaghetti and meatballs song... I digress... Anyway my good friend's girlfriend's 3 year old car was parked just outside the aforementioned garage door, and I'm wondering what damage this $5 flying greasy handled claw hammer was about to unleash.... I turn my head and say NoooOOoooo in my mind... Everything was in slow motion.. I was lucky it hit the windscreen in the drivers side top quarter and bounced off with one bounce to the ground (No Paint damage). About 30 milliseconds later, the windscreen was awash with cracks going in all directions... It was at that time I pondered the value of Datsuns... Anyway.. just the act of cutting up this datto cost me another $370 for a new windscreen (I ask forgiveness for cutting up this datto, A horrible act I know, but it was very rusty, and it lives on, in both story and song) .

Anyway I'm in Castle Hill Sydney. I have a neatly removed Automatic tunnel from a 1200. I've overcut it a little, and you could grind off the common part of the body found on all 1200s and place this auto tunnel into your car neatly. I was going to use this, if I couldn't find a good Automatic Sedan..I found one so I don't need it.

If you plan to come to Sydney to pick it up, drop me a line.

ps, in what was almost the last few impacts with the hammer, I broke the wooden handle in the middle and was able to throw this Occupational Health and Safety hazard into the trash.
