#1 1200 steering box!
srdatsun Posted on: 2014/11/24 9:35
Well.. got my car back from the panel shop about a month ago who painted the engine bay, rolled it in the shed and didnt look at it for 4 weeks.

Now i dont know if he removed the steering box to paint and fix abit on the chassis but the problem is when i turn my steering wheel right it feels like its not connected to anything! Its just free spins for about 2 turns grabs and turns the wheels slighty then it will stop like its on full lock but wheels are still sitting straight. But turning left is kinda normal like it will turn the wheels..

Whats wrong with my steering???

my steering had play in it before but nothing like this. This is like the those toy cars you put your kid in and $1 and it rocks back and forth at the shopping centres.

ive always wanted to rebuild my steering box, is that possible anywhere?

Ps. Old mate on holidays so i cant contact him and ask for 2 weeks

Thanks

Sounds like it was removed and not installed correctly. Call panel shop asap. In any case most steering boxes need to be rebuilt at this age. This is commonly done by a diff/gearbox mechanic.

$$$$$$$! Yeah i wanted to rebuild it anyway, but i heard they dont make these worm gears anymore or something? Do they just replace the bearings or oversize bearings? Ill have a look into it.

Cheers guys
