#1 Sticky Clutch ??
amshaw Posted on: 2002/11/14 8:25
Greeting's All,
I have a bit of a prob with my clutch. when in first gear and taking off the clutch seems to stick a little and then just drops and then takes off. Its hard to explain but its seems worse when it hasent been drivin for a while.

I know where the ajuster is on the firewall, so if I screw the nuts towards the front of the ute would this help to make the clutch not so agro when taking off or is the clutch on its way out ??

Any idea's.

Regards
amshaw

It's hard to tell especially the way you described it! plus you say only in first! and this sounds weird!

One thing you should do first is disconnect the clutch from the box and see if the cable by itself is hard to move!( Maybe it's had it!)

How far between normal pedal hieght and the floor till the clutch grabs?
New clutch should be close to the floor and old will be closer to normal pedal hieght!

I would say its fairly close to the floor but not real close ! iTS only when taking off in first, once on the go there isnt a problem.

I will play around with the ajuster a bit and see what happens I guess, or Im thinking the cable might be streched a bit ??

I will try & explain it a little better, the clutch seems to grap at differant pedal height's . So each time it grabs at differant spots but Im not talking BIG diff but noticeable. Do you know what I mean ?

Everybody gets to know when it grabs at the same spot but Im saying mine seems to grab a little diff now & Then. And this is a pain in the arse because I must ride the cluth a little untill it grabs and when it does it really grabs !!

i wouldnt really know but sounds like cables sticking or something, although a streched cable would just have the clutch engaging much higher not at variable levels???

The way you discribe it to me sounds like there is something worn on either the clutch fork , throwout bearing , imput shalf or the actual pressure plate!

Sounds like you should really take the box out and investigate!

Sounds like you're about to become an expert at removing/replacing transmissions.

Yeah, could be the throwout bearing...i've had similar prob before. on the clutch...

Does it make a low noise when in idle like a 'scraping' noise ?

seems to me theres not much you can play with in a clutch without taking it out. Sounds to me like it could be broken springs in the clutch plate but you are going to have to pull it out to find out for sure
sorry

It could also be oil on the clutch linings, this makes the clutch gum up and grab funny kinda like you described.

Job's right Mate !!
I ajusted the ciutch cable nuts towards the firewall about 1/4 + inch, and it is no where near as rough etc.

Thanks to you bloke's who offerd some idea's
