Hi guys just wondering if anyone could tell me the configuration of the 12 pin plug on the back of the dash when going from round ute facia to rectangular sedan facia? I have heard its only 2 wires that need switching but have no idea which ones. Any help would be great.

When plugging in a round coupe instrument panel in a rectangular dash, a couple of wires need to be rearranged.

It appears the round ute panel is wired the same as the recangular, so no changes needed.

You have a sedan with working rectangular gauges, right?

Can you verify the wire colors for the sedan plug?



They are numbered like this:



 1 YW Yellow w/White stripe
 2 B  Black
 3 GB Green/Black
 4 GL Green/Blue
 5 GR Green/Red
 6 WR White/Red
 7 YG Yellow/Green
 8 ??
 9 Y  Yellow
10 ??
11 ??
12 YB Yellow/Black

I have ute loom/ plug. And sedan rectangle gauge. Not sure if gauges were working before hand but plugged both in and same thing. Right indicator is always lit. Left indicator is partially lit, but do flash when indicating. No background lights at all. No beam light. And charge light comes on when high beam is on.

My plug configuration is
1 yellow white
2 black
3 green black
4 blue green
5 green red
6 white red
7 yellow red
8 green
9 yellow
10 black
11 red white
12 yellow black

So your 1200 is a late ute (after 1979 - round gauge model) and its cluster plug pinout is as above.

Unfortunately no one has ever posted a pinout for the sedan.

Here is the old guide for putting Coupe Round instrument panel in a Sedan Rectangle car. Kind of the opposite of what you are doing.

The problem with this guide is it doesn't say exactly what the pinout is -- the loom? or the back of the cluster? If it is the loom, is it before or after modification?

Hmm it is an issue. You recon it would be easier to cut a sedan plug off or try figure out what wires go where and re organize them in the plug?

Cutting off a sedan plug won't help - it is supposedly wired differently.

Looking at a sedan plug would help. One you figure out the order of the wires, change your existing plug wire order to match the sedan. Just move two or three wires in your existing plug and bob's your uncle is the story. The wires come out - you press a tiny screwdriver in just right and pull the wire out. Much more reliable than cutting and re-connecting wires, although soldering them would be reliable but why bother. It's only two or three of the 12 wires.

Do you like the looks of the bar gauge? Wondering why you would retro-fit one when the round gauges are so classic.

Yeah that might be the best option. Now, to find a sedan plug to copy haha.
And just going for something different.
