#1 A15 engine swap
Avizhome Posted on: 2017/3/5 9:30
Hi Guys,

Just wanted to know if any one here has done an engine swap from stock A12 to A15 in a 1200ute?

If so, what are the changes I have to do or is it straight bolt-on?

Kind regards.
Ron

Depends ...

If your ute already has a mid-dizzy A12, then the A15 will bolt right up. But it you have a front-dizzy A12, then the crossmember will need to be changed or the mounts modified

Hi dd,
Attaching a pic of my A12 engine. Can you please advise if this is a mid-dizzy or a front-dizzy?

thanks guys,
Also is there a difference between a ute a12 and a 120y A12?
Previous owner did mention that he had swapped the engine with a 120y engine but is there a way to check?

Pretty sure 120y use mid dizzy engine as pictured same as later utes. Another way to tell if A15 will bolt in is look at your engine crossmember does it have two tall mounts for engine or one small one medium ? 2 tall mounts is early crossmember one small and medium is late ute crossmember.

120Y was 1974-1978. Utes of the same year used the same engine. For engine swaps the most important thing is front-dizzy (1970-1973) or mid-dizzy (1974-). All A15s were made after 1978 so they are mid-dizzy type

Unless somebody put a mid dizzy 120y engine in an early ute then they would have possibly fabbed up engine brackets. In which case maybe confirm the year of your ute and a pic of crossmember. To confirm if A15 is a straight bolt in. As you said the previous owner said engine was out of a 120y.

That crossmember fits any late A-series engine (A14, A15, late A12)
