Hey guys.

I am looking for 1200 suspension pics for some of the Rallye 1200 coupes. I kinda want to get an idea of where to go with this build.

I want a little more suspension travel and ground clearance but don't want to go full on trophy truck style suspension. I would like to keep it street-able.

Any help is welcome.

You might want to also post on SpecialStage.com. Nissan made rally suspension for Z cars there should be pictures on the net.

TRD made rally struts for Corollas and Celicas (ages ago I had Corolla rally car project), the struts had around 8" of travel.

California Rally Series has/had a class called performance stock; springs were free but you had to use stock components but those could be beefed up.

What I would do is bolt on a standard strut from a bigger car like 280ZX or early Maxima and then use modified shackles in the back. After that weld on reinforcing metal to the control arms.

OR

Brace up the standard front struts and control arms, use Z car springs in front with B210 springs in the rear.

The hot ticket on my Volvo 140 Rally car was quality dampers all around with 164 springs on front and 140 station wagon rear springs. The car had no sway bars on it because most west coast rally's run and washboard gravel road and the suspension compliance was more important the body roll. On a street car I leave the bar on.

280ZX struts (unmodified) are used in 1200s to lower the car ... to get more travel, the strut insert can be carefully chosen (to have more travel than a 1200 strut) and a suitable spring fitted (such as the Z-car rear springs that Tom mentioned)

I bought a pair of Toyota 2wd truck leaf spring for the boot end. I am having some tubes threaded to copy the S13 mounting style.

I plan to mimic Racetech's method for the front setup.

Matt, check the various rally forums like Special Stage, Rally Anarchy etc. You may be able to,find a deal on something like DMS gravel dampers. Guys frequently start with the smaller housings and then go to the larger diameter assemblies. I'd also plan on reinforcing the tops of the strut towers on the shell. If your planning on actually driving it down any gravel roads and encounter water bars (culvert under the road) the landings have been known to punch the struts through the tops of the towers.

Dave note yes the ZX struts are shorter but the stock spring causes the 1200 to ride higher. Now that I've seen how serious Matt is going I'd not recommend going that way.
