#1 Coil over spring length
a12dato120y Posted on: 2020/11/16 12:17
Just wandering what spring length would be best suited when converting struts to coilovers.

Il be using 4 inch shorter vw golf struts.

The two options in spring lengths are 180mm and 240mm both 4.5kg (250lbs)

Im thinking 240mm will put the adjustable sleeves in a better spot (lower on the tube)?

Thanks

Just tack weld them in place FIRST. ( or measure, measure, measure. )
YES - The longer springs puts the "adjustable sleeve"/spring perch in a lower position on the strut tube
BUT it may also put it in a position where it hits the tire depending on size and rim offset.

Not sure if it will help you or confuse matters, but my coil overs on a 200b strut have a 200mm (uncompressed) length. Then there is a 50mm helper spring, to keep the main spring in place on full droop (ie when you jack it up). Coil over kit was from Techno Toy Tuning and was what they recommend for Datsun 1200.

Note: I have yet to install them so can’t really say how good or bad they are yet.
