Front Strut Towers

Quick Question :
Why is it that some engine bay pics show the rubber strut insulator protruding through the top of the strut tower by a couple of inches (like mine) & some show the insulator fitting flush with the top of the tower????? I presume it has something to do with different struts being fitted - which is which?
