#1 Carrying a decent sized spare in a ute??
ANGE Posted on: 2003/6/23 11:48
Just curious to know where you guys with big disc brakes on ute's carry your spare?

I assuming that most of you carry it in the tub as i trial fitted a 14" rim with 185 tyre in the spare holder (under the tub floor) and it wasnt even close to fitting....

i could modify it to carry a bigger wheel but dont want it to hang down really low.... and i also dont want to take up space by carrying it in the back...

do 13" inch rims fit in there? im hoping i can carry a 13 as a spare to keep me outta trouble.... (thats if 13's fit over my brakes)..

sorry about the long post.......

cheers

im going 2 get a new holder made up for my spare under the tailgat same design as bove but were original spot is behind the diff cost prolly 50$ 2 get it made up! thats impressive ute luv the tail gate welded up looks fat!
just get 2treads welded under the back it will also give me a bit more weight 2were it will be needed!

yeah the threaded rod would work......

but imagine trying to hold up your spare with one hand while you try and screw a nut on with the other.... not to mention while your lying on your back in good clothes in the rain and running late for something important....

if i have to i will do it like that... would like something a little more convenient thats all....

the only thing thats gonna satisfy all your criteria is mounting on the front VW van style

Or mounted on the back of the tailgate "continental" style ...

Come to think of it, using a Kia Sportage swingaway mount might work.

i no i was actually thinking of that when i thought of the idea but there isnt much else u can do with the spare? unless u just simply put in the back of tha ute tray and use a toneau over the tray so u cant see it! but i dont think it will be that bad my idea after all ive never ever had a tyre go down on me YET! touch wood! hahahah
