#1 valve seat problems?
matty Posted on: 2003/7/17 13:42
The previous owner of my ute has fitted the Morey's power booster system which basically adds a protectant to the carb/s so it can run on unleaded fuel.

Do A series motors need the protection for the valve seats etc? I run the car mainly on unleaded with the odd tank of premium when I'm feeling rich.

Thanks Matty

In the US, we've been running unleaded for 15 years, and need no additional additives for the old engine. They do just fine with unleaded fuel.

Someone from Australia should answer in case the unleaded there is different.

Ok, it will run fine on Unleaded mate. But if your going to do so use a additive with it for the extra valve seat lubrication. What you will find that it will do without it is that it will burn the seats quicker.

As for the PULP Fuel you are wasting your money ;) Unless you are advancing the timing and using to PULP to commensate it not PINGING.

Biggest misconception with 98ocatane fuel etc is that people reckon it will make there car go faster. it wont.

Higher ocatane fuel only burns with more heat so its less combustable then normal unleaded.

For cars that suffer from bad detonation then i would reccoment PULP

Thanks for the replies.

Mazda 626 - I use PULP every now again for the cleaning benefits from the detergents. I have done stop watch tests etc and never found any noticable difference in performance between the 2 fuels.

To my knowelage there is no differnce's in the make up of the fuel except the Octane rating.

Just do as i do..run it on Unleaded with a tank full of Lead Replacement now and then..keep the valves nice and moist

So it sounds like there are three kinds of street fuel in Australia?

- Unleaded
- Unleaded with valve-seat additive (Lead Replacement) aka LRP
- Premium Unleaded (high octane) aka PULP

In the US, all unleaded fuel has a valve-seat additive. We have "regular", "mid", and "high octane/premium".

Crikey, that's a big actual range for the stated octane number. Here in the US every brand is fairly comparable.

98octane is BP Ultimate here. others are around 96-93 even as low as 91 -92 well thats the premimum anyway im not sure about the others.
