I would pull the a12 block out and put in a rb26 dett and all the goods needed.... I would place the a12 block in the boot for traction

hmmm sounds like my dream as i have to use the a-12 block for rally

first is to put 1400 internals in to get that displacement up, and all the good pistons and cam, it would have the a-14 gx head(oval port naturally) but may require bigger valves, custom injection, nice equal lenght extractors, 2inch zaust, thermo fan, elec dizzy, elec fuel pump, possibly elec water pump, all sitting in front of a close ratio 5-speed and lsd h165 ute diff

hmmm, i need to go change now

p.s. no turbo allowed for rally, but you didn't say naturally aspirated so if not for rally she'd have a big huffa on it too

p.p.s. the motor would be hand built by the chick in your avatar, and id be sitting by watching the WHOLE time

Sorry, but with unlimited funds, I might feel too hoity-toity to dirty my hands building the ultimate A12. I'd just order one over from Tomei or Matsuoka, or, if I wanted to be patriotic, Malvern Racing in the S.E. USA. These guys have secrets we'll never figure out.

I'd order a full-on A12 from Pitroad, bored and stroked. But with a milder cam than they usually fit, to go with a turbocharger. EFI of course for the ultimate smoothness.

Would a lightened flywheel help??

How much can you bore & stroke a A12?

I'd ring Mr Marsh....
Just like his championship winning engine, but with some modern technology in it to keep the heads on the valves....!

Message for DOG

Lightened flywheel?
A reduced mass flywheel will assist acceleration, but you pay a penalty in smoothness & the inertia of a heavy flywheel helps with pulling at lower revs, but hey, thats what the gearbox is for.
I run a Datsun 1000 flywheel as they are the lightest of the A series ones to start with. I machined a bit from the back [a fair bit] & machined the face down to the bottom of the groove in it. We then re-drilled it for the later clutch & it weighs less than any 1200 or later flywheel that we have experimented with so far. Balance it, & keep it down to a rev limit on the sane side of stupidity, & like mine, it will last forever. Well, 23 years so far.

How much can you bore & stroke an A12 engine?

You can use an A14 crank in the 1200 block with nothing more than a light clean up in a lathe to remove the minor dags on the counterweights.
I will be offset grinding my crank & machining the tops & bottoms of the pistons to clear the crank & head. At this piont, some minor mods to the bore will be required for rod clearance.

The factory once made 3.8mm [76.8mm] oversize forged pistons for use in the A12 & i have run a 76.5mm bore size in my 1971 block for about 15 years. We have a 77mm bore 1200 engine on the street around here too. I am going to try for a 77.5mm bore with an "A" class sleve.

Pistons? Which factory pistons?
Thats my secret for now.

Now if you are prepared to "B" SLEEVE the block, then we can start talking SERIOUS overbores, but that will require custom pistons.

All of the stuff above uses stock Datsun parts & the 1200 coupe running it's original A12 with the 77mm bore & A14 crank displaces 1434cc, but thats just for grocery getting.

Chris
PS That 1434cc represents a 23% increase over the original 1172cc with all stock parts & it leaves your original A12 engine number in the car.
The bigger bore & stroker crank will not make 1500cc, but it's close enough for me.
