some/most 120y's have a borg warner diff, if thats not hwat you already have, it should be pretty cheap and almost a straight swap over, otherwise a h165 out of a 1200 ute or if you can live with wider track (flares or fwd offset rims required) a h190 from a vanette

the coupes were fully imported and have the jap Hitachi diff. Sedans were locally built and have the much larger and stronger Borg Warner, but in the same 3.89 ratio. You will also need to grab the tailshaft, but that a good thing as well with larger unis, and it will all bolt straight in. Take the rear section of handbrake cable too, just to make life a little easier.

You can also use KE30 to 55 Corolla diffs which are the same BorgWarner unit, with 3.89, 4.1 or 4.3 ratios and 3" wider track. You need the 120Y BorgWarner tailshaft and diff flange, and it will bolt in. hooking up the handbrake will cause a few headaches. That's what I use in my race car, so I didn't bother with the handbrake setup - just removed it all to save weight. Also remember that toyotas use a different thread wheel studs...

just wondering if the australian built stanza used the same centre as all these toyotas,as the stanza is supposed to be a 3.7:1 diff ratio.
