#1 More charge problems!!!
dat16 Posted on: 2003/10/6 0:20
After spending the day putting my Weber carb on the ute (32/36 dgv) i ran into an annoying problem.
After a short drive, 1/2 hour, where i was pleased to notice the obvious difference with the new carb (still not tuned though) my battery was flat, dead,no power.
Push started the car ok but noticed definate hesitation in the motor.
I'm guessing the altenator or reg has died.
Would this cause the hesitation as well or is the carby way of the mark??

Check your battery voltage without the engine running, and then check it with the engine running. Is there a difference? Voltage should be higher with the engine running, and when you rev the engine, the voltage shouldn't change (regulator is working).

Sound like you've either knocked a wire off, or the alternator/regulator has died.

Thanks Chris.I dont have a multimeter so the ute is at the mechanics now...
.He is my best mates dad so he will look after it..
Once the charge problem is fixed i'll take it the local carby guru..

Turns out the regulator internals had been wet and corroded the resistors,we replaced it with a mechanical one and she is all good!!
Now i just have to fix the carby as it seems to be running too rich (I can smell the fuel with the window down)
At low revs it bogs a bit but is ok at higher revs.
