#1 CA18 auto *cringe*
1200rallycar Posted on: 2003/10/13 1:25
this i swear is for a friend, i would never consider it

but does a ca18 a..a...au..auto (that was hard to say) fit into a 1200 auto tunnel???

i have a friend who just got himself a 12e and he;s looking at the ca18det conversion but due to his chicken legs (well really he's dodgey knee) he reckons he needs an auto

on a side note, is it possible to use diffrent size clutch master cylinders to really lighten up the clutch on the manual gearbox

I wouldn't want an auto myself but I'd like to have a go in a CAD18DET/auto 1200...I bet it'd be good for drags.
Hehe... at least there's no worries converting to a hydraulic clutch that way, eh?
Seriously, though. Does the CA autobox have overdrive? I'm guessing if it has it'll be like the other late Nissan autoboxes...huge. That said, it won't have the shifter housing so that won't require any cutting in the tunnel for clearance.

I once used a different bore clutch slave cylinder on an L series motor and it made the clutch really light. I can't remeber now what it was from...all I remember was that it had an aluminium housing rather than cast iron. I'll see if i can figure what it was from and let you know.

have you ever seen an auto from an a series car, they're HUGE.my sunny sedan was an auto originally,& i think they use the same auto for l series cars,it's a monster.also,i know someone who put an auto from a ca20 behind an a15 in a 1200 ute, using the floor from a 120y auto, due to him lack of an arm making it hard to drive a manual.so,yes it'll probably fit.

The CA boxes are also very long, so it will also be if the tunnel is big enough not only around the bell housing but towards the end of the box as well. Also CA automatics are quite nice to drive.
