#1 1985 1200 UTE Info required......Please
vaztr Posted on: 2003/12/3 3:15
Hi all

I have recently become the proud owner of an immaculate 1985 1200 ute and after reading lots of stuff on the web I have lots of questions

The engine plate says a12(s) is this different to the standard a12? Most workshop manuals are for the 1970s versions of the 1200 - can I confidently use these on my 'new' model?

Are any of you involved with the sydney datsun club? I'm trying to find a club for guys who aren't too interested in 'blown' or racing datsuns, any takers???

I'm in Canberra - if that helps

Thanx

Andrew

the "s" generally reffers to having a carby rather than injection, only on the later models, the workshop manual should be fine, other than some pollution gear and the diff model being slightly diffrent, the early ute had a H145 diff, the later had h165, pretty much the same just bigger in most ways other than length

A Gregory's manual for an A12 / A14 powered Sunny model should pretty well cover your engine & running gear.

Thanx Prodat

I've just been there and drop a line to them - should be great to see some more enthusiasts locally

Hi Vaztr,
Good to see you have made a smart purchase with the ute. Got any pics to post on here?
My ute is also an 85 model and is nearing the final stages of completion.
Most of the earlier manuals will do you fine although I have had a few dramas with spare parts being slightly different. Things like ball joints, tie rod ends etc stop at the 79 model and some don't fit depending on where they are sourced from - so just be careful and check before fitting if you ever need to replace anything - but other than that they are really the same.
So there we go if anyone wants some brand new lower ball joints (Made in Japan by 555), they would suit a 1200 pre 1980 or 120y. I'll throw inb brand new tie rod end as well - "All are brand new in the box" (High Quality ones not the cheap ones) Part No. BJ92
