This might be off your topic but I have a 78' 620 pickup with a L20B engine. I recently rebuilt the carb wtih a kit and now it spits out too much fuel. I have adjusted the float valve, messed with the mixture screws, everything. But it won't start. I was wondering what other models of hitachi carbs will work on the L20B. I really need some help seeing as how the truck hasn't run in 3 months now. Thanks, Isaac

Have you thought of replacing the carb with a DGV Weber ? They've got a lot fewer parts, are a much simpler unit and are more effective ? You can get one from a Wrecker for about $50 (off a 2L Escort or Cortina). Many people here, including myself, have done this to eliminate things like the very hassles you're having. it wont be exactly compatible with ur inlet manifold but it will be compatible with ur size engine, usually u will either just have to buy or if u r able just make up your own adaptor plate.

Here's an example for A-series... yours will be similar in design and it's probably locally available.

Weber a-series adapter

well u look at the shape of ur manifold, then mark this out on some flat aluminium/steel wateva, and then u have to work out, and drill mounting holes in the plate to bring both the manifold and carby together.it really is pretty straight forward just involves a bit of thinking, have a search round for a photo that shows a webber adaptor plate ull understand it moe after u see a picture.

These adaptors are readily available (in Oz) from most accessory shops. The alternative is to buy a piece of 10mm aluminium ( or aluminum for our American colleagues) and spend a fruitful 60 minutes with a holesaw and drill. Just remember that the primary choke on a Weber is bigger that the secondary on that horrible heap of standard rubbish

Buying one for about AUD 45.00 will leave you more time for doing what sensible people do at this time of the year---drink Fosters, XXX, Tooheys, Swan etc.
