Wouldn't it be cheeper to buy semi sealed beams ($20 each) then just buy halogen inserts $25 for the 2. As I've already got a headlight relay and bigger wiring its all cool????

why not just get a narva halogen conversion kit from super cheap or your local auto parts store for $150 and then you have the brighter lights anyway.

thats what i did and they are brighter than my VS calais lights.

HID uses a high voltage system to make an arc, that is what makes the light, not the filament like a conventional bulb. So there is the set of transformers and high voltage cables and all that stuff, so I guess you get your money's worth of stuff.

I was looking into the conversion, but I read a bunch of info that makes it not sound like a good idea.

1. the HID lamp housing is very different, there are people who make HID bulbs that will fit in the H4 lamp housing, but they don't perform as well as they should.

2. as a result of the low quality HID retrofit kits they stopped them from being imported to the US.

Sylvania used to make a good HID kit that replaced the 6054 sealed beam, but it was primarily low-beam only, and to get HI-low was quite expensive.

I got some e-spec 6054 housings that take H4 bulbs and they are quite bright, the pattern is like nothing else on the road here, and they are totally illegal, but if you live out of the states that's less of a problem.

I think the main reason is the Hi/Lo duality of the H4 bulbs as opposed to other kits where you only get HID with the Lo beams. I have an HID kit for my ute I'll be installing soon which I traded for some coilovers but the price was a good $200 more than the other kits for that reason I'm pretty sure.

Hey just a few questions why do conversion kits to change H4 headlights to HID cost so friggin much???? They go for like $600. Whats the difference?? I know the HID make much more light with less power bit what mods have to be done to your existing loom to fit HID bulbs, Does anyone know a cheeper way to do it???

Cheers
