#5 Re: Anyone replaced the tray in thier ute?

I've replaced my tray with flat alloy. It's just pop riveted in and sealed with a waterproof sealant around the edges. If I had a camera I'd post a few pictures so you get some ideas for yours. I'm also tubbing my ute too but it's a couple of months off yet. If you find an easy solution to this problem let me know.

#1 Anyone replaced the tray in thier ute?
Wattage Posted on: 2004/1/19 3:16
Hey guys,

I'm just on a mission to find out if anyone has replaced or has had to replace the trays in thier utes?

Mine has a few rust holes in it, and although it's something that could be repaired with minimal cost and effort, I would like to replace it with alloy checkerplate.

Now, here's where my problem begins. I know that the stock tray floors are welded in around the edges and therefore don't sit/bolt onto a lip on the ute body itself, so bolting the alloy floor straight in isn't an option.

When looking up from under the ute, it seems that apart from the support beams for the tray, and the welds around the edges, there is nothing else holding it on.

Has anyone thought of making up some custom brackets or the like to mount the floor onto, or is this not a viable solution?

Once the 13bt goes into the ute, and the diff is replaced with a Hilux item, I would like to mini tub it, and making a custom tray would allow me to easily remove and modiify for bigger tubs...

Thoughts/ideas?
