The best thing is to try and find a friend who works in a country inspection point who will do you a favour. In WA I have a 'friend' who will pass my car provided that i have fixed the things that they have selected on the original defect notice. That way its all legit without the hassle of getting it real costly.

hey guys i got it off defect. Went to first inspection and got re-defected for: unsealed parcel shelf (speakers recently stolen), unretractable front seatbelts (replaced with unretractable because they dont make proper ones anymore), loose back seat, loose bolt on rear gearbox mount, diff oil leak!!!!!
Back on the road again.....

I have had the pleasure of receiving a few defect notices or yellow stickers here in w.a.
My suggestions are-
>dont fix up too much stuff!
They will check everything anyway, give you a list to fix. you fix them and return for them to check only those things. minimal effort and no guess work on what you think you may need to fix.
>make sure you bring your original defect notice!
They get REALLY STRICT AND THOROUGH. not a good thing!! take original paperwork!!!

on second thought, trust me do the plate swap, passing a datto through regency will be harder than trying to keep an ice cube in an oven, just buy any datto sedan from around the same time and swap the number plates, I know its dodgey and that im going to burn in hell for doing it, but it will be thousands cheaper than trying to get a datto through regency

its not as easy as it seems, i live in adelaide, and it seems as if adelaide police are the defect nazis's of the universe. my friend has a 97 VS commodor that got defected for being too low, he raised it up and took it to regency and came back with another canary and defect sheet that listed abour fifteen things wrong with the car. These included; missing grommet from the firewall, faded rear reflector, need new suspension bushes all round, etc. the best thing would be to fix all the obvious things and take it through regency, then come back with another defect, that all the things "wrong"with the car. The only other option is to buy a boonger sunny and do an el dodgo plate swap. I saw a sunny in the advertiser for 350 bucks. that will be way cheaper than going through the hell that is known as regency park.

being in adelaid you guys have that place "something" park that huge warehouse i have heard of it. it's where old cars go to die sometimes. oh well change it back over get it passed chuck the stuff back on and get it all setup and tuned so it is emmisions passable.

thats realy annoying. they complain that our datsuns are too low but you see most of the cop cars these days the same height and they dont defected by other cops its bull crap
