Brent,
Sorry mate, after testing the box last night, this particular gearbox has a overdrive 5th gear. Stu.

Brent,
I checked the box last night and to me it is 1:1 final Drive. I'm new to the mechanical world so tonight I'm going to get a mechanic that I know to come over and confirm the ratio. Tomorrow I'll have a definate answer for you. Cheers, Stu.

I have a 60a 5-speed. It definitely is overdrive, the revs are much lower in 5th than the original 4-speed in 4th. That does't mean there wasn't a direct-5th version available ... but for sure at least some 60a are overdrive.
What is a 59a transmission? The 56-series transmission was a direct-fifth design. It was standard in the GX-5 1200, and also available from Nissan Competition with "option 1", "option 2", etc gearsets.

the 60A box IS the 1:1 final drive box. the 59A is the overdrive box. the 60A has a larger centre shaft and will handle more hp and is therefore more valuable.

Stu,
I'm after one with the 1:1 final drive, overdrive boxes a easy to come by over here and is no good to me. Other than turning the input shaft 5 times and making sure the output shaft turns 5 times, I don't know of any easy way of telling them apart. If you take it out of the crate try not to break the crate as it'll be handy if I buy & ship to NZ. thanks Brent You can view topic.
