so all you had to do to fit the standard 1200 drums to a h165, was have the drum machined to take the larger bearings, from the larger axled h165? that sounds relatively easy and cost effective.
cheers for that, i might give it a go!

you could always just use the stock 1200 rear brakes, because too big a rear brake will lock up,particularly in a ute.just change the 1200 backing plate over to the other housing, the spacing on most datsun diff housings are the same, then you'll probably have to get the centre of the 1200 drum machined out to clear the axle.i had to do this in a 1200 coupe with a c20 van h165 diff.or you could try discs from a bluebird or a pintara.also, please fill in the details on you avatar, because you might not be able to get these parts, say if you're in new zealand or america.

i also have that magazine, but i would still like to find another brake option.
if you read the article he says that it only just fits under the guards.
they must weigh heaps, so id like to find something else.

hey guys I just found a fast fours mag with the rotary ute I mentioned featured in it. It says that It is still running the huge 620 drums and has been converted to four stud which is interesting as the 205 tyres dont seem to be sticking out the side or anything. Also mentions that the axles are similar in size to a 9inch. I bought a 620 a few years ago with a Z18t in it,thrashed the arse off it and the diff never failed, prob the ugliest thing ive ever owned but went pretty hard and looked like a stocker. I ended up selling the motor and box and still got the diff at home. Prev owner reckoned diff was some crazy ratio like 4.4:1

yes it is a h190. the actual housing is only like 2mm longer than the standard 1200 one.
i was hoping to use the drums from a s3 blubird, which also has a h190, but ive checked the wheel bearings at work and they are not even close. i will see what i an come up with, hopefully datldo has a magical solution.
ps, they re 6 stud, but its nothing to have that changed.
cheers

Don't 620's have 6 lug pattern or do they have 4?

What rearend is that anyway? I think most all Nissan trucks used H190's, if this is the case, couldn't you use Datsun Roadster brake gear or maybe 510 Station Wagon brakes? These cars also used the H190 rear.

If it IS the H190, I believe Nismo still has Limited Slip Diff's for the newer H190 rearends (not the Roadster or 510 Wagon ones).

I need to find a better rearend for my 1200, and I would like the H190 truck rearend but I figured they're all too wide and as far as I know they're all 6 lug.....if the 620 rearend is the right width for a 1200 and you could adapt proper drums/brakes on it, it sounds like a great swap for those of us with high power 1200's! Keep us all posted, I'm anxious to hear how you got it in and see pics of it!

that would be excellent if you could find out what that guy did . i really want to use the diff because of its massive axles, but those huge drums must way a ton

ROTORACE Posted on: 2004/3/16 13:31
hi all, i just got a 620 ute diff to fit to my 1200. the actual housing is the right length, but the drums are huuge and it only just fits under the car. im wondering, can s3 bluebird or similar drums be used on the back, so that the drums are smaller and hopefully shorten the overall length?
those who have fitted these difs, what did you do?
cheers
