Yeah, 100hp is do-able. But will cost a lot, you could put a nice used V6 in for less dough ... and you'll still only have a 15-second car.

Who makes parts for a-series? Everybody sells rebuild kits (NAPA, Partsamerica, etc). Forged or high-compression pistons are harder to find. Take a look at the
Parts Sources article.

Sorry guys, one more thing. How hot can I make the A12? Could I squeeze 100hp out of it? The thing only has 43k original miles on it, and if I could get moderate power from it that would be the best way to go. Thanks

Ok, thanks for the insight. If I decide to go with the A15/5 spd, do you know of anyone who makes hot parts for them, ie new pistons or a better clutch? Who sells a rebuild kit? Thanks again.

What kind of performance can I get out of a warmed over A15/5 speed?
If you do a hot build-up (the whole works), look for 15-second quarters. If you really want fast performance -- 14 seconds or better -- put in a 2-liter (SR20 or L20B both fit under the hood), or put in a KA24E (12-valve engine) from a truck or 240SX. Here's links to some specific swap info: What's the best engine to put into a 1200?

Hey everyone, just a few questions. I am in the US and I picked up a 73 deluxe a few months ago. I am building the car as a sleeper/rat rod (steel rims and black primer, gutted interior) which I plan to drag race and autocross. My question is this: what should I do to it to get moderate street performance i.e. enough to keep up with the local Hondas , and still keep the good handling? What kind of performance can I get out of a warmed over A15/5 speed? I am trying to do this on the cheap, moneys tight, so I am interested in anything you can tell me. I can do some fabrication. Thanks guys.
