My work truck is a daihatsu, I wouldn't use anything made by someone capable of building anything as user unfriendly as that truck, if only on principal!

What motor are these pistons out of?
I mean what model Daihatsu?

I used Mazda E3 pistons. They are cheap, and flat top. Unsure of weight compared to A15 piston.
In my engine with block and head planed to get comp ratio up, we had to mill valve cutouts as the cam has quite high lift. Was getting pretting marginal (depth of cutout) so if you're motor's really wild keep that in mind.
It was a while ago and I looked at other options, like Daihatsu, but they come in sets of 3, so you need 2 sets. Also you said $309 for pistons then more for rings? Unusual for a set of pistons to come without rings isn't it?
With the mazdas they come in up to 2mm oversize, so with their std bore being 77mm you can build a 79mm A15.
I saw somewhere (may have been feral's site- not sure...) sets of forged 79mm pistons with a big bore head gskt for A$900 I think?? Doesn't sound too bad, that's probably the road I'd go down if I were to do it again... but that's just my 2c!

from what my brother knows, the daihatsu's are flat tops. he was told that they are lighter the sandard? And that they are stronger than the standard ones.

aparently my A15s got Tx3 pistons in it...which are need of replacing as one is chipped...my old man got a quote for like $250 to get custom ones built....unsure exactly will get more details..

unless these daihatsu pistons have different compression ratio they will not give any performance wat-so-ever, unless they are lighter which probly wouldnt do much.

are the daihatsu pistons a bigger diameter than the a15's 76 mm?are they flat top?better material?,stronger?.all these things go into whether the daihatsu pistons are 'better'.

I'm starting to rebuild my a15 soon and i want to know if its wroth spending some extra money and getting some different pistons. My brothers 120y has an a15 in with Daihatsu pistons and it goes ####ing hard! I've been quoted $309NZD for these pistons + $120-$200NZD for rings. But I am able to get set of new a15 pistons and rings (+1.00mm) for $250. Are the Daihatsu pistons worth the extra money? Would there be much difference performance wise?
