I totally agree about not restricting the oil return. This is the exact reason why the oil return from any turbo is meant to face directly down. I have seen a fresh rebuilt turbo cook the oil and easily pass it through the seals into the compressor and turbine housings. We learnt it the hard way.

Absolutely right. If you restrict the outlet, you build up oil pressure behind the seals on the turbo shaft. If the seal leaks under pressure, you get oil into the combustion chamber. The octane rating of oil is pretty low, & at full boost, & full song, you may not detect the detonation untill it's too late. That can't be good.

Do not Restrict the oil return line of any turbo for the turbo's sake! The outlet is big because its gravity feed back to the sump and cos a turbo gets pretty hot you dont want to hold the oil in there for long or you'll cook it real good!

the oil pressure has been good recently, the temperature stable. I think I had several things acting up.

That's right on spec. Perfect. 14 lbs at idle.

Finn, I would suspect that your pressure is low because your turbo is theiving oil pressure. One solution might be to restrict the oil return orafice after the turbo, slowwing down the pressure loss.
I have been told that L series oil pumps are the same diameter. If this is the case, then you could get another A series oil pump housing and plart off a peice of it in a lathe, to make up for the L series oil pump having a thicker gear set. then using the Lseries pump gears, with the modifeid Asreis housings, you sould have a higher volume pump. If anyone can verify for sure that the pump gears are the same from A, to L, then speak up.

I re-adjusted the mixture and it's running much cooler now. Oil pressure has been pretty good too. I'm keeping an eye on it. I may try adding a washer in the regulator to bring the pressure up a bit too.

If you have checked all the obvious things. I would then possibly check the presure relief valve and spring in your oil pump. Looking at the pump on the mtr, this is on the left hand side under a 17mm blanking cap. undo this and check that the spring isin't damaged and that the plunger moves freely. This won't find the cause for the drop, but if all looks ok, you could put a small 1mm thick washer between the spring and cap. By doing this it will increase the resistance on the spring and increase oil psi. If that has no effect i would then maybe have a look at the pump its self.

B210sleeper, I don't think the carb mixture can affect oil pressure.
