Thanks mperdue...

The boot/ trunk panelling is made from MDF (also known as craftwood) and is covered in upholstery vinyl that is very stretchy with the help of a heat gun.

Behind the jack brace (which has been mounted in the factory Datsun location) is the fuel tank and the side walls are simply cosmetic.

Under the floor is the spare wheel, jack, jumper cables, toolkit, spare hoses and even a picnic rug !!! There is also a panel that covers the tail light assemblies. As for covering it up, I prefer the extremely neat and clean look.

I'm assuming you are asking is there are extra speakers in the boot/ trunk. The answer is no. The datsun is my 'shopping trolley' so to speak so I can't justify going all out on it I've saved that for my other car which is below:

hey anb008,
Those door panels look great. What's underneath the covers in the trunk? It's a bit unusual to completely cover up everything - are you worried about theft? What material is that in the trunk anyway? Are there speakers under the cover and if so are the covers "transparent" to sound? Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not runnig much, I have my REAL system on my Turbo convertible. The datsun has 6x9" rear speakers, 6" in the doors with a high output deck and rerouted power cables.

I did the logo by cutting out the letters in cardboard and then fitting them to the MDF. Then using a heat gun, lay the vinyl over it and there you go. The whole system from go to whoa was about 50 hours which included testing the sound response curve and tuning the system using RTA software in my laptop.

If there's anyone in Perth interested in putting a system into their own car, Please contact me through my website where there are also images of my past work on other cars.

ok. i LOVE the boot that is awersome, i personally like to see the speaker and there cover. but install wise that is awersome. what sort of stuff are you running.

in my sunny i got a set of kenwood 6x9 and a set of kenwood 6inchers as well as a 10inch sub that is running at one 5th its capcity (and still shakes my car to pieces) al this is powered by a base model kenwood
head unti ($200) and its not bad has bass mid and treble adjustment, it does the trick.

how did you do the datsun logo thingy in the boot????

Having a good ground is imperative. most electrical power leakks aren't due to the power side of the circuit, but rather not having a good earth. This is no more important than in the stereo as it eliminates both system noise and ignition.
But getting back to the topic of stereo installations, I thought you guys might like to have a look at what I've just finished in my '78 120Y. I'd be interested to see people's thoughts. Maybe it will also give someone else inspiration for their own system:

ground wires = bs.

sure people think they work better and sport compact says they make the idle smoother and added 3-5 hp on a 150 hp car.

i'd recommend replacing the old ground cable with a new good one and a good heavy ground strap to the engine too.

we don't have any spiffy electronics to benefit from a 'better ground'.

I think the ultra-high performance racing gauges are rated to add about 5HP each, so that's 15HP right there. Of course mounting them at the top of the dash adds a little more so all together probably about 20HP. 12's? Please!!! I think I broke all the clocks when I ran my 1/4 - anything under 10 and the clocks just explode.

ON a similar note, have you guys seen those ground wires that pop up on ebay claiming to give you a big HP increase. Here's one: ebay auction LOL Think about it - even with the minimum HP increase listed there on my car that would be almost an 8% HP increase. WTF? This one's not listed as being for a 210 but I've seen the same claims on the ones for my car. Talk about BS. I'm sure there is some benefit to having a better ground but it really depends on the condition of your ground before installing it. If everything is done up right then this thing will do nothing at all but maybe make your engine bay look a little more colorful (and I know the last thing I need under my hood is more red...)

I didn't think of using the glove box. Maybe one day if I actually install a quality system I'll use that too - after restoring my mangled dashboard.... For now anyway my car is just a beater so I can live with junk. Got any more pics of the rest of the install (sleeper too - any pics?)
