wasn't that the one where the top half of the world had just had a nuclear war,& the crew of
an american sub was in australia.& in the end they all chose to go back to america.i think it was from here to eternity.in phil irving's biography it mentions about the filming of the race scenes,& the fun that was had by all the drivers tear-arsing round phillip island AND being paid for it.bit like the english racing driver who was supplying some cars for a film,& who brought his father along to watch.he then negotiated a fee for his 'mechanic's time,& split the money with his father.

I just saw a movie where one of chaps bought a Ferrari for 100 quid ("last year's grand prix winner") and raced it at Phillip Island. It was a great footage, very exciting. This was 1964, and there were Jaguars, Porsche, Mercedes gullwings and other ultra-classic racers, and in the an eye-popping crash a car ran into another at speed and burst into flames. I was just a bit surprised they didn't show the water, but on closer view it was there, but I think the director tried to keep it toned out. The track for the most part looked like it was in the middle of a desert.
Quote: The 'Freezing Island' is better known as Phillip Island Racetrack. It is at the bottom most point of victoria and you are literally metres from Bass Straight at one point of the track. You can view topic.
