Re: Why is Datto's so addictive?

I was once in love with a 1600, but she became too demanding of my time, always asking for money, wanting new things. Then becoming moody and unrelialble to the point where we don't talk anymore.
That might have had something to do with the sexy young 1200 ute I found on the side of the road looking for a ride, she came home with me and I gave her a bath and some new clothes. She has never asked for anything more than my TLC and is always happy to see me, even when I haven't been near her for a week and work make's me spend time with that commonwhore... She makes me feel special when we are together.... (I am so full of crap, boring day at awork!!!)

It seems everyone is telling the same story. When I first got my Licence, I got a 120Y as my first car. This was my "blackboard" in Introductory mechanics 101. With this car I learnt all about how a car works (Thanks to my Dad passing on his knowledge) and the simplicity of it made it a great platform to work from. At the time I needed something bigger, but there was always a touch of regret about getting rid of it. For years I wanted to get hold of another one and restore it to the way I always wanted to do the first one. I've finally got one now and I'm loving the trip down memory lane I'm getting. The cruises with the WA Datsun Club, sorting out those annoying problems, the typical Datsun smell of the boot... It's all good.
So good in fact that a family friend has gone and bought a 120Y for his daughter who has just got her licence... For those who don't know what we Datsun owners are talking about, all I can say is... "Get that Datsun Difference"

You know, someone pointed it out to me,... the more you learn, & the more care that you give your Datsun, the more your luck improves.
It's funny that.

But then you get some wreckers who wanna just jib you on parts... eg: $11 for an ash tray??? come on!!! it an ash tray!
:p but most parts are cheap to get, and you dont need much to replace. its good to see how im not the only person with bad luck. but one thing is that we all cant get away from them! even if they cause us grief.

A datsun car, at least in the model groups & years that we all love, is greater than the sum of it's parts. Thats what makes them so good.
They are well designed, they share a comonality of component design over nice long model runs & this makes for a lot of INTERCHANGEABILITY. This is what makes them truly great. Lets face it, to make a small Datsun go, stop & handle well. we really need only to select the correct components from other models in the Datsun model line-up. There need not be a lot of non Datsun parts to build a really slick car, & I offer up my own coupe as an example. Great, affordable, & flexible [designwise] cars are always addictive, & i'm an addict.

I dont know what it is with the Japs, they create some ####e but they hit a great note with Nissan's and Datto's!!!! Being thru 2 Datsun Sunnys and about to RE-fix my wagon for about the 3rd time i know you pain...... Bought for $500 from wreakers not rego'd had to replace alot of things, wont go into detail! then radiator shagged, ARG, then welsh plugs went and now my starter and loom have bad terminals and my seals n gaskets have gone oh and i have no boot struts and perspex drivers side window ...........ahhhh what a life!!!Cheers Dave But the weird thing is, why do we still go back to them??!!!

After being through my fair share of the old skool Mazdas, I gave up on them as the prices in NZ are out of control, not to mention when you have a nice one some arsehole will just steal it!! (speaking from experience). If you ask me the Datsun has "the look" , I love its size and style, and its simplicity. And they still turn heads !!!!
