hmmm, I've said alot of stuff about the BW diff, but I don't recall ever saying they were stronger than a H165. They may well be, but I don't know. I've never measured the crown wheel, and can't remember how many splines the axles have - but I wouldn't know how many splines the ute H165 has either...

what I do know is that they are strong enough to handle the ~200bhp stewart wilkins L18 we used last year - and will certainly cop everything an A series could ever throw at it (excluding other problems like axle tramp).

They're also dirt cheap, and dead easy to find, neither of which you can really say about the sought after ute H165.

And to top it off, the Corolla (KE55 or something) BW diff perfectly matches the rear track to the front if you've done the popular Stanza brakes/strut conversion.

what more could you want for $50 to $75 from your local wrecker? How about a choice of 3.9, 4.1 or 4.3 ratios in the Corolla version (120Y sedans only have a 3.9). And some KE55s have a rear sway bar that could easily be fitted to the 1200 too...

the rest of the details with regard to fitting them have all been covered before.

oh, and they've got bigger brakes! don't laugh, bigger drums make a noticeable improvement. actually there's 2 sized brakes on the Corolla diffs - the smaller drums are pretty close to the 1200's size, but the bigger ones are prefferable.

Wrong answer.
Australian Model 810 [200B] The early, imported sedans & all SSS coupes have independant rear ends. Station wagons have live rear axles with leaf springs, while everything else has live rear axles with coils.
Australian Model 910 [Bluebird] Sedans used coil sprung live rear axles while wagons used leaf sprung live rear axles.

I think it was L18_B110 who said it was stronger than a H165

mind you his is "CIG improved" and he uses a corolla BW diff! (3" wider than a 120Y BW diff!)

Is there any proof to you saying that a borgwarner is stronger than a ute diff?

the unused hole where the A series X member bots up to the chassis, thats the mounting holes for the L series X member!

everything fits - with a few "slight" modifications, as far as I know, allthough I don't know if 200B's have leaf or coil rear?

I think L18_B110 was boulding a L18 powered 120Y coupe

I'm thinking of doing it myself, I don't have the funds for a wild A12-A15 and since the L18 has 105Hp and the L20B has 110Hp it makes more sense to me!

cheaper too!

I'm lucky in the way that I have a spare Borg Warner diff lying around not being used they are stronger and cheaper than a H165!

I just have to find the right 180/200B for the job now...

so how much from a 200b will bolt into a 120y ie. brakes engine steering, stuff like that
coz i have a 120y and a 200b, and a 120y looks better, so a bit more power would be nice, and a guess some braking power too

actually 180/200B crossmember/running gear fits a 120Y (i've heard that a 910 (bluebird) crossmember is identical to the 180/200B one, apart that it has rack and pinion steering mounts!

stanza crossmember/running gear fits the sunny

just had to clear that up!
