A14force,
I get steel shaft turned down to the same dimension as the drill hole, cut the roll pins to length chamferer theends and tap them in to the holes with loctite (601) shaft fit.

I noticed that too Tom210, when My Dad and I converted "The Defect" ('77 aussie 120Y 4 door sedan) from a 3N71B ( 3 speed auto), to a F4W60L car ( 4 speed manual) we also noticed that there is only ONE way that the flywheel will fit! - otherwise the bolts don't line up!, there are TWO different crank spiggot sizes too
even though "the Defect" is a manual now it has the auto AND manual spiggot bushes as I had Dad machine the flywheel to the larger spiggot size - and so it would clear the auto spiggot bush- Yes, The auto spiggot bush is still there to ensure that the flywheel doesn't go "on a holiday via leg"

speaking of fly bolts, whats the go with the spacing of them, there all over the place, i was un aware of this and when i put mine back on it was like, "ok, why dont these line up" so i turned it a few times and it worked, why are they like that?

It makes a god awful noise doesn't it? Youd swear that there was something broken.
Toss away the old bolts, get some 12.9 tensile bolts or capscrews. run a tap through the holes in the crankshaft, to remove any old locktite etc. Blow it out with compressed air. Spray locktite primer solvent into the holes, and get all grease etc out. Check the inside of your flywheel. All that flapping around damages the mating face. It would pay to have it trued up in a lathe. (If this happens too often, the end of the crank frets, and it never really fits as snug again. Follow the locktite directions to the letter. Them get it dyno'd!!!! FERAL, By dowling, do you mean drilling three holes (evenly spaced for balancing) through the flywheel, and into the crank, and driving in some roll pins?

As this has been a recurring problem I would have a good look at the crank thread condition. If all appears normal then dowel the crank and take the torsional load of the bolts. This is what kills the A series flywheels more than anything.
The bolts have a small PCD so this makes the problem worse. The last A12 hottie I just finished building had the crank triple dowelled so the dowel weights were evenly spaced for balancing. By all means use 601 (shaft fit) Loctite and the primer T (3 Bond etc). Dowels are most important.

Make sure you put loctite on the bolt head surface as well as the thread as well as torquing to 65ftlbs (60ftlbs is factory). That will keep them in.
Also what grade loctite are u using...they arent all the same.... Some are soft some more brittle depending on the torque load you require the bolts to hold down. You can view topic.
